Recorded at the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, the band’s first Christmas single puts a soulful spin on the season’s bittersweet moments.

San Francisco, CA (November 6, 2026) – Ameri-Cali Soul group Wreckless Strangers are bringing a different kind of holiday spirit to the season with “Christmas Tears,” their first Christmas single, available now. Originally released by Sonny Thompson and Robert Wilson and later made famous by blues legend Freddie King, the song finds the band leaning into the bluesy, soulful side of the holidays.

When the band gathered for a rehearsal, the song quickly won everyone over. What began as a question about whether Christmas blues could work became an opportunity to embrace the emotional depth of the song. The band brought "Christmas Tears" to life with their recording that stays true to the blues while putting their own Wreckless stamp on the holiday classic.

“Christmas Tears” captures the complicated feelings that can surface during the holidays, when memories of love and loss can feel just as present as the joy of being together. For Wreckless Strangers, the song’s appeal lies in its unfiltered lyrics and blues-driven delivery, offering a chance to sit with those emotions rather than shy away from them.

Recorded at the legendary FAME Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, “Christmas Tears” leans into the tradition of slow blues, with expressive guitar work and a soulful arrangement that leaves room for the lyrics to take center stage. The heart of the track is lead vocalist Amber Morris, whose performance brings both courage and vulnerability to the song. When asked what stands out most about the track, the band shared, “This one is really all about the lyrics and the vocal, and Amber crushed it both technically and emotionally. Musically, we like how it uses every slow-blues trick and turn around in the book.”

The single was produced by David Kalmusky (Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood, Justin Bieber, Journey), and mixed and mastered at Addiction Sound Studios in Nashville, Tennessee. Together, the recording and production preserve the character of the blues while giving Wreckless Strangers room to bring their own sensibility to the song.

With their first holiday release, Wreckless Strangers bring their signature blend of Ameri-Cali Soul to a tune that embraces the depth of the season. Recorded at one of the South’s most storied musical spaces, “Christmas Tears” is the band’s gift of song to listeners this winter.

“Christmas Tears” is available now on all major streaming platforms.

Wreckless Strangers is a collective of friends and musicians carrying the torch for San Francisco’s grand rock ‘n’ roll tradition. Their unique blend of “Ameri-Cali Soul” melds the contemporary blues stylings of Bonnie Raitt and Boz Scaggs; the songwriting sensibilities of Sons of Champlin and Fleetwood Mac; the swashbuckling Americana of the Lost Planet Airmen and Peter Rowan; and the funk of Sly Stone and Tower of Power with a dash of Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane for flavor and unpredictability. With soaring vocal harmonies and burning instrumental improvisation framed in concise and poignant original songwriting, Wreckless Strangers seek to honor and carry forth the brand of free-spirited musical fun and adventure that defines the Bay Area.

The band features Amber Morris on lead vocals; David Noble on lead guitar, lead vocals; Joshua Zucker on bass, vocals; Mick Hellman on drums, vocals; Rob Anderson on guitar, vocals; and Fletcher Nielsen on keys. Their EP, Dirty Souls, is their third project with 4x GRAMMY® award-winning engineer/producer Dave Way.
