WolfWood Refuge Opens Up in Highway Wolf’s Howling for a Cause Series
San Francisco, CA | June 17, 2026… Highway Wolf’s Howling for a Cause initiative continues into June with a spotlight on WolfWood Refuge, a southern Colorado-based organization dedicated to the rescue, care, and education of wolves and wolfdogs. Located on high-elevation terrain and home to more than 50 animals, WolfWood Refuge provides a safe environment for rescued and displaced animals while working to challenge long-standing myths and misconceptions. Each wolfdog at the refuge is cared for as an individual, with attention given to its physical, mental, and social well-being in large natural enclosures designed to support healthy pack dynamics and quality of life.
In addition to providing lifelong care for these animals, WolfWood actively engages with the community through school assemblies, tours, field trips, seminars, and public events that encourage a deeper understanding of wolf and wolfdog behavior. The refuge promotes responsible care while continuing its broader mission of replacing fear and misinformation with knowledge, compassion, and coexistence. Summing up this philosophy, WolfWood Refuge shares,
“We will be remembered by the tracks we leave behind.”

Highway Wolf is donating 100% of the proceeds from purchases of their WolfWood Refuge 'Protect the Pack' Spotlight T-Shirt directly to the sanctuary. “Highway Wolf has always been about exploring the connection between people, nature, and The Call to something deeper,” says Mick Hellman. “What Wolfwood Refuge is doing goes far beyond rescue work. They’re helping people create meaningful relationships with these animals.” Highway Wolf invites music fans and wildlife advocates to support WolfWood Refuge by getting involved, spreading the word, or contributing directly to their mission through their Amazon and Chewy wish lists or PayPal. All donations go directly to the animals’ care.

Highway Wolf is a unique musical project led by Mick Hellman, Amber Morris, and Tal Morris, who create a sonic experience through this collection of reimagined classics. Highway Wolf takes us on a transformational journey, relatable to anyone who has been challenged by The Call and all that comes with answering The Call. The songs are of the human experience, and through the howling and longing of the Highway Wolf, we come to understand these stories through another lens.
