ISMAY Live Performance and UK Debut of Finding Lucinda Documentary at UK Americana Music Week
London, England, 19 January, 2024…California-based artist ISMAY is set to appear at UK Americana Music Week, (22-25 January, 2024) performing music from their new album Desert Pavement, and appearing at the UK premiere of their documentary Finding Lucinda.
The film follows ISMAY (Avery Hellman), an aspiring artist in search of inspiration for their own artistic journey, on a road trip across the southern United States as they delve into the untold stories and remarkable path of legendary artist Lucinda Williams. Featuring never-before-heard recordings from Lucinda's early years, interviews with Charlie Sexton, Buddy Miller, and Mary Gauthier, and archival footage of Lucinda Williams herself, the documentary brings a unique visual perspective to the profound impact Lucinda Williams had on music and how her artistry continues to resonate today. Following the screening, Siobhan Kennedy, vocalist, and Americana board member will host a Q&A session with ISMAY.

On Wednesday, January 24th ISMAY will be performing songs from their sophomore release, Desert Pavement. This tapestry of alternative American roots music blends alt-country textures and lush folk songs, transcending traditions and blurring boundaries. For Avery, the album builds a bridge between past and present. "I create music that's informed by older traditions and makes you feel the way old folk music does," they say, "but it doesn't sound like something you've heard before."Desert Pavement was heavily influenced by the California ranch where Avery spent most of their 20s working the land. With Desert Pavement, ISMAY paves a path toward a new horizon, filling the journey with songs about the sights, sounds, and singular characters found way out west.
