Highway Wolf Howls at the Moon with Funk-Rock Cover of “Werewolves of London”
San Francisco, CA | October 17, 2025 — Bay Area’s unique musical project, Highway Wolf, unleashes a bold new twist on Warren Zevon’s classic “Werewolves of London” set to release on October 17. Just in time for Halloween, this reimagined version transforms the iconic rock anthem into a funk-rock, dance-floor-ready jam that’s equal parts spooky and celebratory.
Designed for the season’s wildest parties and haunted playlists, Highway Wolf’s rendition injects the song with fresh life, flair, and a wink of mischief. While Zevon’s original remains a beloved rock staple, Highway Wolf pushes it into new territory, layering funk grooves, punchy bass lines, and swaggering guitars with Halloween-inspired ad libs. The result is a recognizable, yet refreshing sing-along version that you can’t help but groove to.
“We chose Werewolves because we wanted to get loud and raucous! It’s a great sing-along song,” says Mick Hellman, Highway Wolf lead vocalist and drummer. “We wanted a groove that you could dance to while leaning into Warren Zevon’s macabre humor and bringing in a little of our own,” adds vocalist Amber Morris.
Produced by Tal Morris and Amber Morris and executive produced by Mick Hellman, the track features a top-tier ensemble of Bay Area talent, including Angeline Saris on bass, Eamonn Flynn on clavinet and Hammond organ, and percussion legend Karl Perazzo. Trumpet and horn arrangements by Marvin McFadden, engineering by Karl Derfler, Erin Tadena, and Sean Beresford, and mastering by Brian Lucey give the recording a punchy, big-stage sound worthy of Zevon’s legacy. Laurel Hellman joins Amber and Tal Morris on backing vocals, while Johnnie Bamont rounds out the ensemble on baritone and tenor sax.
“Zevon’s humor in this story appealed to all of us. Werewolves of London was reimagined here with a funk-rock element as the musical twist. Filled with chills and spills, screams and wicked laughter, but still danceable,” shares guitarist Tal Morris. “Lots of Easter Eggs throughout the song, including backgrounds that sound like they were borrowed from Little Shop of Horrors.”
Highway Wolf’s “Werewolves of London” will be released on October 17 across all major streaming platforms.
