Highway Wolf Unleashes Single “Speed of the Sound of Loneliness” From Sophomore EP “Lone, Never Alone”
San Francisco, CA | September 26 — Highway Wolf, the unique musical project led by Mick Hellman and his creative partners, Tal Morris and Amber Morris, unleash their new single, "Speed of the Sound of Loneliness." The lead single, off their new EP, Lone, Never Alone, a John Prine cover, carries a soft melody but heavy emotions.
Hellman offers insight into their decision to record the track, explaining: “The Wolf knows loss. And so do Purdie and the Man. Sometimes the ones we love make decisions that hurt us, and we don't understand why. That loss and confusion create a special kind of hurt.”
Highway Wolf’s version of “Speed of the Sound of Loneliness” creates a simple and sonic space similar to Prine’s original track. “We really wanted to stay faithful to the original and lean on Mick for all that emotion in his vocal delivery,” Amber Morris shares. “We felt strongly that the genius of John Prine needed to be respected. We decided to have a layered sonic field so that the music could provide the trust fall.” Tal Morris adds.
Produced by Tal Morris with Mick Hellman as executive producer, "Speed of the Sound of Loneliness" features a talented ensemble of Bay Area Musicians, Angeline Saris (Acoustic Bass), Earmonn Flynn (Hammond Organ), Dave Zirbel (Pedal Steel), Barbara Higbie (Piano), Karl Perazzo (Percussion), Devon Baldwin (Backing Vocals), Mick Hellman (Drums, Lead Vocals), and Tal Morris (Electric & Acoustic Guitars).
