David Starr Unveils New Video and Single for Classic Blues Tune “Statesboro Blues”

10th Track From Touchstones Project Available Now Across All Digital Platforms

NASHVILLE, TN (August 19, 2021)...Americana singer-songwriter David Starr shares his latest Touchstones cover with his take on the Blind Willie McTell classic “Statesboro Blues.” Premiering on Rock & Blues Muse, the lyric video is directed by Jason Lee Denton and features an eclectic mix of black and white scenes with electric guitars, cotton fields, and even a chicken or two. The track shines around Starr’s soulful vocal and electric guitars, bringing a live-feel to the recording. The single is available now across all digital platforms.

“I have always loved this standard since I first heard the Allman Brothers version in the 70’s and knew it had to be a part of the Touchstones project,” Starr shares. “I’ve played it in virtually every bar band I’ve ever been in and wanted to take a straight ahead gritty blues approach. It is so fun to play and sing and I wanted to bring that live energy to the recording. I think you can hear that we’re having a good time!”

Rock and Blues Muse’s Martine Ehrenclou affirms, “With his brand new single, David Starr turns in an absolutely joyous and personal version of Blind Willie McTell’s eternal classic ‘Statesboro Blues’ that will infuse your day with the shuffle you need to survive. Starr eschews the often-quoted Allman Brothers cover and takes the song to his own place and time, breathing new life into one of America’s greatest popular songs. His vocals are compelling and expressive and his guitar work is a veritable clinic on phrasing and tone...This is a pristine new take on one of everybody’s favorite songs and reminds us of everything we love about the blues.”

So far Starr has covered favorites such as “Magnolia” (J.J. Cale), “Drive” (The Cars), “Angel From Montgomery” (John Prine), “I’ve Got To Use My Imagination” (Gladys Knight), “Someone Like You” (Van Morrison), “These Days” (Jackson Browne), “Gotta Serve Somebody” (Bob Dylan), and “Every Kinda People” (Robert Palmer/Andy Fraser) in addition to the sole original on the project, “Cabo San Lucas.”

“Statesboro Blues” features Starr on vocals as well as lead and rhythm guitars, Mark Prentice on bass and organ, Matt Bubel on drums, Dan Dugmore on lap steel, and John Prentice on electric guitars.

Starr is gearing up for a full album release this fall and has several tour dates booked including stops in Colorado, Arkansas, and Missouri.
